Kendal Au,
BASI Certified
(Body Arts & Science International)
Kendal is the Founder of Pilates to the People.
In addition to her certification, Kendal has studied Pilates for post-physical therapy recovery with Lizz Roman at EHS Pilates in San Francisco. She has tested this training with her own quick recovery from recent knee surgery for a decade-old Martial Arts injury. Kendal makes good use of this intimate knowledge of the recovery process to better understand her clients' conditions and how to help them regain health and vigor.
Kendal works with a diverse clientele, ranging from martial artists & athletes seeking increased strength, mobility and improved physicality, to office workers who want to eliminate neck and back pain to new mothers seeking to heal diasitisis recti (the common separation of the "six pack" abdominal muscles during pregnancy) and to get their old body back.
Kendal has enjoyed swimming, gymnastics, running and martial arts. She is also a community muralist and activist.
The Pilates Method has given Kendal a wonderful outlet for her scientific interest in the human body, her athleticism and her desire to help people.
Amy Boe Power,
BBU Student Teacher
(Balanced Body University)
Amy has been teaching Pilates since September 2009, and is currently completing her Balanced Body University (BBU) Comprehensive Certification.
She took her first Pilates mat class in 2005 because she had heard Pilates could reshape one's body and wanted help with her posture. After that first class, she was hooked. She felt like she had worked out and had a full-body massage at the same time. It was so amazing that she began thinking about closing her business (Delirious Shoes in San Francisco) and becoming a Pilates instructor instead. In 2009, she decided to make the switch. She loves how Pilates makes the body stronger and more functional for everyday life, and loves to help clients become stronger, fitter, and happier with their bodies.
Cathyn Fan,
Yoga Fit certified - Yoga Instruction
YMCA certified - Pilates Mat Instruction
Blending the disciplines of yoga and Pilates, Cathyn offers unique flows that can be customized to any fitness level. She trained with YogaFit (Beth Shaw) for her Yoga Alliance RYT and at the YMCA for her Pilates mat certification. She is also an ACE-certified personal trainer and massage therapist. From her personal experience rehabilitating carpal tunnel syndrome and knee pain, Cathyn is acutely aware of reducing excess strain and stiffness in the body while creating a balanced workout. Uniting strength, stability, and stretching, Cathyn offers a safe space to rediscover wellness.
Maria Maisriemler,
BASI Student Teacher
(Body Arts & Science International)
From an early age Maria had an interest in body work, nutrition, alternative health, and spirituality.
She has an international background in Art Therapy, Feldenkrais, Antiginnastica, Capoeira, Touch for Health, and Total
Body Modification, studying these techniques in Italy, Austria and the US.
Maria came across Pilates four years ago and was immediately hooked on it's body, mind & spirit centered technique. Maria specializes in beginner mat classes but also likes the challenge of teaching advanced students.
With tight hamstrings and weak lower abdominal, Maria persevered for over a year to feel the strengthening
and benefits of Pilates. Her skill and thoughtful teaching reaches those who may feel new to exercise or out of touch with their bodies.
Jessica McKee,
ITT Certified
(Integrated Teacher Training)
Jessica was first introduced to Pilates through practicing aerial arts in 2003, and she was (and is continually) impressed with the effect Pilates has on improving body awareness, balance, and ease of movement. Jessica received her Mat and Comprehensive Pilates certifications in 2008 & 2009 through Integrated Teacher Training (ITT) and continues to deepen her knowledge of the body both mentally and physically. In addition to aerial arts, Jessica has a background in Belly Dance and Capoeira, and she graduated with honors from SFSU with a BA in Dance Performance and Choreography.
An encouraging and supportive instructor, Jessica believes that conscious movement significantly enhances the experience of living in one’s body, both in and outside of the studio. She enjoys helping others advance in their awareness and ability at all levels.
Lindsey Shahoian,
BBU Certified
(Balanced Body University, Turning Point Studios)
Lindsey received her Pilates certification in 2005 from Turning Point Studios in Walnut Creek, a Balanced Body University. She was attending University of California, Davis at the time, studying clinical nutrition. In the process, she became passionate about learning everything she could a about the body. She gained experience using Pilates for injury prevention, rehabilitation, functional training and overall athletic enhancement. The more Lindsey learned about the body the more she realized that our bodies perform at their best when we learn to be intentional with each of our movements. In her private and class instruction, she hopes to provide an environment that embraces this mind-body approach to wellness, as well as equip each person with the tools and disciplined movement to acquire strength, flexibility and ease of movement.
